Chinese Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on Norrköping Tidningar's Article About China

Recently, the Norrköping Tidningar published an article “Falun Gong förföljs ännu”, which unfoundedly accused China of “persecuting Falun Gong” and “taking organs from Falun Gong practitioners”. The article is full of lies and bias against China and constitutes an attempt to maliciously smear China, which is totally unacceptable. The Embassy has sent a letter to Norrköping Tidningar to express firm opposition, and present China’s positions as follows:

Falun Gong is an outright anti-human, anti-science and anti-society cult. It seriously violates human rights via mental manipulation, leading to disability or even death of numerous practitioners and innocent people. The so-called master of Falun Gong, Li Hongzhi, deified himself by counterfeiting his resume and posing as the reincarnation of Shakyamuni Buddha. He claims his “Dharma body is omnipresent” and that “his parents are his creations”. Besides, he has accumulated wealth through illegal means including printing illegal publications and “curing ailments” with his “healing power”. Falun Gong alleges that Falun Dafa, or the Great Law of the Wheel of Dharma, is the “superior law of the Universe, while the national law is the inferior law of the man’s world”. Fooled by such teachings, believers have been engaged in numerous illegal activities and severely assaulted the sanctity of the law.

In July 1999, the Chinese Government banned the Falun Gong cult according to law and issued a warrant to arrest Li Hongzhi. Li fled to the US, and has since then continuously fabricated rumors to discredit China on media, including the persecution and organ harvesting claims mentioned in the article. His true intention is to deceive the international community and disguise the nature of Falun Gong as a cult. The media outlets of Falun Gong once openly instigated its practitioners to forge evidence for their organ harvesting claims by making fake photos with stage properties and other practitioners as models. As a matter of fact, China has adopted and implemented the Regulations on Human Organ Transplantation as early as 2007. In China, donations of human organs require the donor’s written consent. Hospitals not qualified for human organ transplantation cannot perform such surgeries. Human organ transplantation operations cannot be performed without consent from the donor and his/her relatives or when medical standards are not met.


It is sincerely hoped that Norrköping Tidningar will not buy the lies of anti-China activists. Hopefully it will publish the Embassy’s letter to let the readers learn about the truth and help them make objective judgments. The Chinese Embassy in Sweden is willing to conduct open and candid dialogues on relevant topics with Norrköping Tidningar and its readers in a positive and constructive manner.
